The Socratic Method

I found the Socratic method to be an enlightening tool for exploring my thesis topic because it allowed me to create questions that I may not have thought about otherwise. For example, when it came to thinking about viewpoints and perspectives, the module prompted us to think about how other groups or types of people might respond. Because my topic deals with women in the gaming industry, I had to think about people who were against equality and inclusion. This led me to do research about Gamergate, which is a harassment campaign toward women.

Because this movement is so widespread, the potential deliverables I devised consisted of support for women dealing with harassment in the field. These potential deliverables may include a deck of coping cards with motivational phrases and uplifting graphics, a system that allows women to find a therapist, and a support group online via a website or an app. By having a support system, women may be more inclined to join the gaming industry, which will lead to better representations of women in video games.
